Following on from the review of Australia’s Migration System which found that the system is broken and requires major changes, the Albanese Government has announced the beginning of a number of reforms.

It has been confirmed that the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold will increase from $53,900 to $70,000 from 1 July 2023.

The government also announced that by the end of 2023, Temporary Skill Shortage short stream visa holders will have a pathway to permanent residency within the existing capped permanent program.

The full details on the reforms and how they will affect our industry will be released by the end of this calendar year but regardless of what changes are made, Agri Talent will work with our clients to navigate these.

We all know that the Agriculture Industry is facing a widespread skills shortage, and Agri Talent advocates for any reforms that will speed up visa processing times allowing us to place workers in businesses quicker.

As more information comes to hand on these reforms we will continue to let our clients know.

For more information on the proposed reforms, please refer to the National Press Club Address on Australia’s Migration System.
